YU NAGABA 長場雄
Japanese 1976

Yu Nagaba (born in 1976 in Tokyo) moved to Turkey during his childhood due to his father's job transfer, where he learned oil painting from local artists. After graduating from the Department of Design at Tokyo University of the Arts, he worked for an apparel company, designing graphics for T-shirts, before transitioning to a freelance career and beginning his professional artistic journey. Initially, his work encompassed a variety of styles, but in 2014, he shifted to producing artworks composed solely of black and white lines, marking a significant change in his style. His themes are heavily influenced by movies, art, and music encountered during his childhood, particularly reflecting the strong influence of 1990s American culture. He gained widespread recognition when featured on the cover of the magazine "POPEYE," leading to collaborations with renowned brands both domestically and internationally. In 2019, he held a solo exhibition titled "Express More with Less," which marked his transition from paper-based drawing to canvas painting. In 2020, he exhibited "The Last Supper" at Gallery SAI in Shibuya. Since then, he has continued to garner attention through solo exhibitions in Hong Kong and Taiwan, as well as participation in the West Bund Art & Design fair in China.
