Born in Beijing in 1913，graduated from Fu Jen Catholic University Beijing in 1936 with an Education degree. He went to American for further education in 1944, earned a master’s degree from the University Columbia in 1946. Afterwards worked for Yale University, Seton Hall University as a professor and researcher, retired in 1975. He was famous for his research on Bada Shanren and was a very important collector. He was also famous for his calligraphy.
