LONG Chin-san 郎靜山
Taiwanese 1892-1995
Born in Langxi, Zhejing Province, Lang Jingshan was interested in photography as a teenager. He was an eminent Chinese photographer who made immense contributions to the advocacy and education of modern photography in China. He founded the Asia Association of Photography, the ROC International Photography Exhibition, and the Photography Society of China. Between 1928 and 1937, he was a photojournalist for Shanghai Eastern Times, making him the first photojournalist in China. In 1930, he taught photography at Shanghai's Songjiang Girls High School, pioneering the education of modern photography in China. Long Chin-san is most remarkable for his mastery in photomontage that exhibit the aesthetics of Chinese paintings through modern photographic techniques. Throughout his life, he had participated in more than a thousand exhibitions. His life-long ardent devotion to photography has won him honorary memberships and fellowships to more than twenty prominent national and international photographic associations.
