Stickymonger
Korean 1976

Born in South Korea in 1976, she studied at Ewha Womans University in Seoul. After graduating from university, she went to the Pratt Institute in New York for further study. Currently she works and lives in Brooklyn, New York. Stickymonger depicts a psychedelic, little dark and surreal world with a young girl with long black hair as the protagonist. The girl seems to be lost in this dreamlike world, but simultaneously she is also attracted by the strangeness of this world. Since she cannot change the current situation, she then chooses to immerse in it. Her early works employed collage as her media. Although created digitally, she had to tear off the excess parts by hand and align the collage pieces by pieces. "I grew up at a petrol station, walking through cans of oil drum. Maybe the reason I like to apply collage is because they look like oil which is so dark and therefore become reflective." Afterwards, Stickymonger started to create with spray paint. Interestingly, she still uses black as her main color of creation. "When I learn a new technique, I only use black because it is the best way to practice and test myself."
