Kojiro Matsumoto 松本弘二郎

Born in Tokyo in 1976, he graduated from Tama Art University majoring in pure art and obtained a master's degree. He joined Kaikai Kiki because of his admiration to the work ethic and marketing campaigns of Takashi Murakami. He became Murakami's disciple and managed his assistant team. In 2012, he curated the "Transeffusion" exhibition, which promoted a new style of Japanese contemporary art based on manga art. The composition of Kojiro Matsumoto is deeply influenced by Japanese animated culture, Japanese traditional art manga, illustrations and post-war animation characters. The theme of his works often focuses on cute girls in Japanese popular culture and apply traditional style and technique of the 17th to 19th century Japanese painting and ukiyo-e, combined with the unique culture and history of Japan, therefore has successfully reshaped the concept of Japanese contemporary art and become his distinctive feature.
