Chen Chien-Fa is currently a professor at the Department of Visual Arts and Design, National University of Tainan. Chen received his master’s degree from the Department of Fine Arts, National Taiwan Normal University and began his career in art education and creative studio practice, specializing in painting. He taught at the Department of Arts and Craft, Tungfang Design Institute in Kaohsiung and became the first Director of the Department of Fashion Design after he helped the school to found the program. His signature work, “The Withering Waterlily”, is now in the collection of the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts. Chen Chien-Fa experimented with black-and-white water-and-ink expressions to trace the fundamentals of human nature, spiritual pursuit of arts and the future development of water-and-ink art from retrospective surveys. Traditional water-and-ink techniques present the best state of representation.
