Tadashi Asoma was born in Japan in 1923. In 1958, he received a Japanese Government scholarship that allowed him to study painting in Paris. After Paris, he left for New York and studied at the Art Students League. He was fascinated with the American contemporary painting and eventually settled in New York in 1961. The majority of Asoma’s works were produced while he resided the US. In 1970s, he moved to Garrison, a small village about forty mile north of Manhattan, and found inspiration for his art from the local scenery. Asoma’s paintings show his mastery of nature and reveal the changes of seasons. His works are characterized by their luminous palette, burst of brilliant pure color and slightly feathered texture, representing a unique artistic language. He has participated in solo and group exhibitions throughout the world, including New York, San Francisco, Tokyo, Switzerland and Germany.
