FU BAO-SHIH 傅抱石
Chinese 1904-1965
Born in Nanchang, Jiangxi, the artist named himself "Fu Bao-shih" after his encounter with the ancient paintings of Shi Tao and named his studio as "Baoshi Zhai". In 1926, Fu was graduated from the Arts Faculty of the Jiangxi Provincial No.1 Normal School. Later he studied in Japan. During the war, he was the secretary of Guo Moruo, and painted propaganda paintings during the Sino-Japanese War. After the war, he was appointed as Director of the Jiangsu Province Chinese Painting School and taught in in the Art Department of Central University. Since then, he took up prominent roles in the arts development of China.
