Born in Xinzhuang, New Taipei City, in 1982, Liao Zenping received his Master’s degree in Fine Arts, specializing in painting, from Taipei National University of the Arts in 2010. He previously lived in Yokohama, Japan, and currently lives and works in Taichung.

Working primarily in oil painting, Liao draws inspiration from urban landscapes and everyday scenes encountered in his daily life and travels, including parks, roads, spaces beneath bridges, riversides, architecture, and views through vehicle windows. Through geometric forms, man-made structures, light, and spatial composition, he transforms familiar scenes into visual experiences imbued with abstraction and ambiguity, exploring the relationship between reality and abstraction in representational painting.

Selected solo exhibitions include Under 35: Liao Zenping at BankART Studio NYK, Yokohama (2017); Landscape with Mount Fuji at Ke Yuan Gallery, Taichung (2019); Abstracting, Like Extracting Coffee at Ke Yuan Gallery, Taichung (2021); A Kind of Figuration at Ke Yuan Gallery, Taichung (2023); Playground at Ke Yuan Gallery, Taichung (2024); and Beauty, Mirror, Cube at Ke Yuan Gallery, Taichung (2026). Selected group exhibitions include TOKYO WONDER WALL 2015 at Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo (2015); Future Theatre at Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts, Taipei (2018); FUTURE MEMORIES. Utopia Dystopia Nature at Singing Waves Gallery, Run Run Shaw Creative Media Centre, Hong Kong (2021); and Couplet Pair Rebus: The Principle of Cause and Effect in Art at University Museum and Art Gallery, The University of Hong Kong (2023).

Liao was selected for the CTBC Contemporary Painting Award in 2022 and received the 32nd Holbein Scholarship in 2017. In 2015, he received the Jury Prize at the Yokohama North Art Public Exhibition and was selected for TOKYO WONDER WALL 2015. He was an artist-in-residence at the 435 International Artist Village from 2008 to 2009. His work is held in the collection of the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts.
