ZHANG Kun-Yi 張坤儀

Zhang Kun-yi was born in Guangdong and received literary education from an early age. She was deemed as a successor of the Lingnan School of Arts, and was acclaimed as one of the greatest female artist. Since 1919, Zhang followed Gao Qifeng in her art practice. Her works carries a sturdy character with excellent brushwork, reflecting her strong valiant character. Zhang excelled in Flower and Bird paintings and calligraphy, notably Jinshi calligraphy. In 1939, she took the works of Lingnan School to the US, introducing the school to the world.
