+ OVERVIEW
of long rectangular section, the top well carved in high-relief,
surmounted by a seated big mythical beast with its head turned
upwards majestically, one little cub playfully escalading its back,
another little one walking by the big one's feet, the seal face
inscribed with a five- character poem in seal script kan shan ru du
shu (Viewing the mountains as if reading the books), the stone a
warm amber-honey colour with lighter mottling polished to a glossy
finish. On the surface of the seal case there are scripts written by
Wang Zhuangwei (1909-1998) from which we can learn that the
seal was once in the collection of Huang Fu (1880-1936). Wang
Zhuangwei was well known for exceling in calligraphy and seal
cutting. After the era of the Republic of China, he crossed the
sea and went to Taiwan, having a great influence on Taiwan's
contemporary engraving.
