+ OVERVIEW

This work was painted at Wufeng Yuan in Xindian in 1966. Sun Yun-Sheng once painted a life drawing portrait of his wife in 1954. Such painting shows reference to Lady portraits of Song, Yuan, Ming dynasties. After his stay in Brazil, Zhang Da-Qian introduced Tang portraits and handed to Sun his own drafts. By 1966, Sun's lady portraits showed signs of Tang strokes. Light ink was used to sketch the face, while dark ink was used on the hair. This painting shows the perfect balance achieved with smooth lines depicting the gracefulness of the lady. The lady in the work was painted in meticulous detail enriched with pink to enhance her elegant posture, holding a fan in her hand.
