+ OVERVIEW
At the age of 56 in 1974, Sun Yun-Sheng studied paintings in seclusion. This work depicts the scenery of Autumn and Winter. Layers and depth of mist in between the mountains were depicted with the flow of ink and colour over wet paper. Mists hovered over the distant mountains depicted with wet light ink. Splash ink in gradation was depicted with wet and dried ink. A Song script mentioned that Landscape paintings should be majestic. Splash ink of green and blue should be used with a wet pen on wet paper, creating the humid and elusive atmosphere. Splash colour in this painting spread outwards along with the movement of the brush. The gradation of colours extends to the foreground depicting the transparency of the mists. Fine stroke was used to depict the surface of hills and villages. Sombre clouds lingered through the valleys enlivened by red leaves of autumn and a boat sailing across the river.
