Wang Jianwei was born in Sichuan in 1958. He began his art practice in the 1970s, and he began to become a pioneer in the field of contemporary Chinese art. When he studied at Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts (now China Academy of Art), he read a lot of Existentialism and Chinese History.
