Paul Aïzpiri was born in Paris in a family of artists. Aïzpiri's early works were marked by dark colors and thick blacks, reflecting the difficult post-war period. However, a meeting with Pablo Picasso in 1957 changed his artistic direction, and he began using bright colors and simplified forms. Aïzpiri art celebrates French landscapes, as well as childhood, women, and poetry. His works have been exhibited in galleries and museums worldwide and are held in public and private collections. In 1996, the Aïzpiri Museum was founded in Onomichi, Japan, dedicated solely to his work.
