Born in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, in 1950, Lu Ming-Te graduated from the Department of Fine Arts at National Taiwan Normal University in 1974 and received his Master’s degree from the Graduate Institute of Art at the University of Tsukuba, Japan, in 1985. He has taught at Tunghai University, National Taiwan Normal University, and National Kaohsiung Normal University. He served as Dean of the College of Arts at National Kaohsiung Normal University in 2003 and founded its Graduate Institute of Interdisciplinary Art in 2006, serving as its director.

Since the 1980s, Lu has continuously explored mixed-media and interdisciplinary art practices. Working across painting, video installation, sculpture, spatial installation, found objects, and performance, he engages with contemporary social issues while developing an artistic practice that crosses media and disciplinary boundaries.

Lu received the New Horizon Award at the Contemporary Art Trends in R.O.C. exhibition in 1988, the Second Lee Chun-Shan Foundation Painting Creation Award in 1991, and the Kaohsiung Arts and Culture Award in 2018. Major solo exhibitions include presentations at Taipei Fine Arts Museum (1987), National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (1994), and Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts (1998), as well as the major retrospective Great Migrations: Lu Ming-Te at Taipei Fine Arts Museum in 2021. His works are held in the collections of Taipei Fine Arts Museum, National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts, the East-West Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, and other institutions.
